privacy policy

effective august 6, 2026
The plain-English version: space of my own is a place, not a feed. There are no ads here, no trackers following you around the internet, and your data is never sold — to anyone, ever. We collect the minimum needed to give you a space and keep the lights on, and this page spells out exactly what that means.

who we are

“space of my own” (“SOMO”, “we”, “us”) operates the website at spaceofmyown.com. Questions about this policy or your data: [email protected].

what we collect

google user data

Signing in with Google shares only your email address and account identifier with us. Separately — and optionally — you can connect your YouTube account to help furnish your space with music and videos you already love.

If you connect YouTube for browsing, we request read-only access (the youtube.readonly scope). We use it to show you your own liked videos, playlists, and subscriptions inside SOMO so you can pick what belongs in your space. We cannot post, edit, or delete anything on your YouTube account with this access.

If you also want to talk — replying to the real YouTube comments on a video playing in a space — you can connect with posting permission (the youtube.force-sslscope). With it, SOMO posts your words to that video’s YouTube comment thread, as you, through your own connection. Only the exact text you typed, only when you press send — SOMO never posts, edits, likes, or deletes anything on YouTube on its own. Your comment then lives on YouTube like any comment you’d write there; you can delete it on YouTube at any time, and we do not keep a copy of it in our database. (The comment rail’s readingof a video’s public comments does not use your Google data at all — it is public information fetched with SOMO’s own server credentials.)

What we actually store from YouTube is deliberately small:

Everything else (your likes, playlists, subscriptions) is fetched live when you browse it and is not copied into our database. We do not use Google user data for advertising, we do not sell it, and no humans read it except as needed for security, to comply with law, or with your explicit consent.

SOMO’s use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

youtube api services

SOMO uses YouTube API Services to provide the YouTube features described above. By connecting your YouTube account you also agree to the YouTube Terms of Service. Google’s handling of your data is described in the Google Privacy Policy.

You can disconnect YouTube at any time from your SOMO settings — doing so deletes our stored token and revokes our access at Google — or revoke SOMO’s access directly from your Google security settings.

how we use your information

To run the service: render your space, sign you in, show your choices to the people you share them with, and keep the platform safe. That is the whole list. We do not sell personal information, we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers, and we do not profile you across other websites.

when we share

With no one, except: infrastructure providers that carry the site to you (for example Cloudflare, our network provider), when the law genuinely requires it, or to protect the safety of the platform and its people. Never for money.

how your data is protected

Everything travels over HTTPS. YouTube tokens are stored server-side in our database, are never sent to your browser, and are used only to make the requests you ask for. Access to production systems is limited to the operator of the service. When you disconnect YouTube, the token is deleted and access is revoked at Google — a dead key, not a dormant one.

retention and deletion

Your content stays as long as you keep it in your space. Delete something and it’s deleted — removed items are wiped from our database and storage, not archived. If you delete your account, or email us asking for deletion, we remove your account data and content. Disconnecting YouTube deletes the stored token and the channel info immediately.

age

SOMO is for adults — you must be 18 or older to have an account. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we learn an account belongs to someone under 18, we close the account and delete its data promptly. If you believe a minor has an account, tell us: [email protected].

changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, we’ll say so on this page with a new effective date. We will never quietly change it to start doing something this page says we don’t do.
